Stephen Covey once said, “Your attitude determines you altitude.” If that’s true – and I believe it is – we may need to start issuing oxygen masks to our associates. This week’s level of activity demonstrates the commitment by our associates to make affordable legal services available to those who need access to the legal system. This, coupled with the great news about our ascent on the Forbes Magazine list of “America’s 200 Best Small Companies,” underscores the fact that we are moving in the right direction. That direction will take us to a new altitude.
Here’s The Green Light:
Hal/Susan Faresh Report – Hal’s travel schedule around the Pacific Northwest over the past two weeks has been dizzying. From business briefings to core training to leadership dinners to PBR’s to Super Saturdays, he’s had consecutive stops in the following cities: San Francisco / South, Sacramento, Roseville (CA), Seattle, Albany (OR), Portland, Seattle (again), Roseville (again), San Rafael and Palo Alto. During the past week the region set new attendance records at events that include: a San Francisco /South business briefing with Darnell Self, a San Francisco / East Bay Tuesday night briefing and Wednesday core training with Jermaine Johnson and a Roseville business briefing on Wednesday with RM C.A. Murff. This week will also be packed activities and events, including a visit to Las Vegas by Wilburn Smith for a business briefing on Thursday, a luncheon on Friday and a Super Saturday. This week, Hal’s special thanks go to California RM Judy Samson for her long-term efforts to maintain and grow her market. Hal says, “Judy can always be counted on to act in the best interest of the company and to assist RM’s wherever there’s a need.”
Rob/Charlene MacKenzie Report – Last week was Thanksgiving in Canada and it appears there is a great deal to be thankful for in Ontario and Manitoba. Rob and Charlene were busy every night this past week with business briefings leading up a weekend of activity, including two “standing-room only” events on Friday and then a Super Saturday that attracted more than 300 attendees. Rob offers thanks to Platinum 5, MCM Mark Riches for a “phenomenal” presentation as guest speaker. Looking toward November, Rob says Darnell Self and Michael Humes will be Canada on November 4 and 5 and there will be an upcoming open-house at the provider law firm of Mills & Mills.
Larry/Doni Smith Report – Larry and Doni were in Honolulu this past weekend to headline a successful Super Saturday event as well as a small business class that Doni led on Friday. Back in Arizona, there was core training in Tucson that included 50 attendees and a stand-out presentation by Jamie Conrad. On Thursday night, Sean Mikael spoke to 100 attendees (including 30 guests) about how to achieve success in our business. The Tucson Super Saturday featured K.C. Call, who provided an inspiring message to hundreds of associates from the area, according to RM’s Jonathan Conrad and Bobby Garcia. The West Valley region of Phoenix had an active week with a Blastoff presentation on Tuesday (presented by Paul Guerrero), a Wednesday event with MCM Brenda Anderson, followed by a core training event led by Brenda, RM Thom Harrison and Paul Guerrero. East Valley was also active with a recruiting luncheon this past Friday with a presentation by ED Wayne Reid.
Mike Humes Report – The North East Region continues its “high altitude attitude.” Production in each state in the region is up from the same week last year, including: Connecticut (128 percent), District of Columbia (450 percent!), Delaware (80 percent), New Jersey (173 percent), New York (142 percent) and Pennsylvania (166 percent). Mike says there are more meetings and PBR’s in every market. On Sunday, Darnell Self, Katrina Ferguson and Mike held a meeting blitz and added new associates, including an attorney that Mike began talking with more than a year ago. As he puts, “Fortune is in the follow-up.” For the coming week, Larry King will be in Delaware, Dave Savula will be in Pittsburgh and Kevin Mack will be in Connecticut.
Ross/Cindy Chantrel Report – In addition to their ongoing schedule of events in the Missouri and Kansas markets, Thomas Owens held a successful group training this past Saturday and Sunday in Missouri. Missouri’s new Wednesday night statewide conference call was well received with 68 associates participating. Guest speaker Don Thompson talked about the approach they use in Florida when a new associate comes on board. This coming Saturday there will be a Super Saturday in St. Louis with Rick Johnson as the guest speaker.
Mark Michaud Report – Mark says the “commitment” in Maine and Vermont (and throughout New England) is also moving to a higher altitude. Last week, there were well attended briefings in both northern and southern Maine and a Super Saturday that drew attendees from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. For the coming week, there will be a Super Saturday in Portsmouth, multiple briefings throughout the market and regional costume party for PPL associates at Mark’s house on Saturday evening.
Kevin Montville Report – Over the past two months, the momentum in New Hampshire has been better than it has been all year, says Kevin. In addition to all the recent developments and opportunities, Kevin describes the Forbes Magazine listing as “icing on the blastoff cake.” RM Thomas Duplessy (Massachusetts and Rhode Island) will be the featured speaker at the New Hampshire business briefing this week. Also, there will be a Super Saturday this coming week with featured presentations by RVP’s Francois Exilohomme and Mark Michaud.
Francois Exilhomme Report – Massachusetts and Rhode Island also have the momentum. Francois says recruiting is up in Massachusetts (by 60 percent) and in Rhode Island (by 650 percent!) for this past week compared to the same period in 2008. According to Francois, the increases are producing results, including “belief” checks to those who make the commitment and act upon it.
Ken Smith/Patti Ross Report – Western Canada is seeing capacity attendance at its meetings and British Columbia is adding a new meeting which begins on October 26th. There will also be a BC Super Saturday on October 24th. Shining the spotlight on Alberta RM’s Linda Rasmussen and Jacquie Carstensen, Patti says, “Linda and Jacquie have helped drive recruiting to new heights in Northern Alberta (553 percent!) and Southern Alberta (800 percent!!).”
Brooks Werkheiser Report – Brooks is in Springdale, Arkansas (at the Lisle Law Firm) for 2 ½ days this week, along with Mark Brown and Rob Vest, for a series of opportunity meetings and group programs. In Montgomery, Alabama, RM Robert Parkerson is holding a new opportunity meeting on Thursday.
Jack Bufkin Report – Recruiting in Tennessee is up by 180 percent last week, compared to the same time period in 2008, says Jack. This week, Chattanooga will host an event with Darrin Kidd as the featured speaker and Harold Branch will be a featured speaker at a Nashville event this week.
Ron/Norma Crutcher Report – Ron says PBR’s were held in multiple locations in Ohio this past week, and that he and Norma travelled to Cleveland for a successful, well attended Super Saturday this past week. Ronald Green of Georgia was the featured speaker and Ron says his presentation was excellent.
Keith/Carol Dickens Report – Darnell Self will be the guest speaker for a business luncheon and evening opportunity meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Louisville, Kentucky and this weekend Indiana will hold a statewide tool blitz.
