Session IV: Moving Forward with Integrity

DSCN4259
The audience was fired up and ready to go, when the final session of the Legal Shield Summit kicked off at 7 pm at the American Airlines Center. The opening video featured amazing highlights from this historic event.

The dance troupe, "Dance Effects" is made up of several Associates. They graced the stage with a DSCN4240 Wizard of Oz routine that featured great music and included an appearance by Darnell Self.

Tony Petrill, VP of Sales, was on hand to clarify a few things. First off, IDT can still be sold as a stand- alone. The 24/7 emergency access benefit is now automatically a part of our plans. So you can market a $17 plan, or a $26 plan.

He encouraged the audience to protect our brand and our logo with integrity. "We are going to slowly and deliberately go through our vast amount of supplies. Some we will discard, some we will use, some we'll change. Use what you have, use the brochures that you have, use the apps, they'll all still work," Tony said. He went on to explain that the process of rebranding all of our material would be slow and deliberate to make sure it fits with compliance and that it fits with our brand, image and market research.

DSCN4274 Next, the newest EDs since Oklahoma City were recognized. So many walked across the stage to share their name and home state.

Rip Mason, CEO of Legal Shield, returned to the stage to speak on the events of the past few days. He thanked his partners from Mid-Ocean and revealed that they had not seen any of the Legal Shield videos, until they were revealed to the audience. He expressed his thanks for the trust, professionalism and faith, that Mid-Ocean had put in Alan and him.

Rip also gave thanks to Alan Fearnley, Chief Commrecial Officer and Present of Legal Shield for his hard Rip Mason work on the rebranding. "You've created something so precious that is so special, and I am so proud of what you've done. Thank you from the bottom of my heart," he said.

The final speech of the evening came from Associate Darnell Self. As those who took the stage before
him did, Darnell gave thanks to many. He then went on to share a chemistry analogy. He explained that a compound is a combination of elements, and NaCl is a compound known as table salt. "When you separate it, sodium itself is explosive when added to wood. Chlorine, the other element is poisonous," Darnell said. Then referring to the many things learned this weekend he said to, "keep this compound together."

He encouraged everyone to be motivated by integrity, dignity and faith, "People who are willing to step up and not compromise who they are," he said."

DSCN4291 Darnell shared about Associate Danny Katoa's struggles and success in the business and encouraged everyone with these words, "In life, sometimes it seems like you're going in circles. Going in circles and wandering are two different things. The thing I love about this business is that we can do the same thing over and over and over again, and build a success business. Darnell said that it's not just the activity, but the attitude behind it. He went on to say, "I'd take a bullet for my family, why couldn't I take a "no" for my family?!"

Darnell went on to encourage everyone to write down some goals before leaving the Dallas Leadership Summit. "If you don't write down where you want to be, who knows where you're going to end up," he said.

Speaking with insight, experience and encouragement, Darnell shared story after story to illustrate the traits and tools needed to succeed in the business.

He closed with a story about leadership. At an airport, Darnell noticed a long line of people at a revolving door, while the door next to it had no one. He saw no signs that the door might be out of Darnell Self order, so he decided to take the chance and head for the door. Those in line had the same opportunity he did, but they didn't take the chance. He talked about feeling a little on the spot as he walked alone past the line of people, now watching him, to the door no one else was at. "By the way," he said, "One reason people don't want to risk the chance of going past people, is because they're afraid of embarassing themselves and having to pass back by the others." He then reminded the audience, "Many folks that you think so much about right now, won't even be with you when you celebrate at the top."

Darnell revealed that when he reached the deserted door, he had some doubt in his mind, but he didn't show it. He walked confidently and hit the door hard when he reached it, and it opened. As he passed through the door, he saw half the line at the other door move over to the door he'd passed through. "The masses out there are waiting for someone to lead," he said.

He closed with these words, "We appreciate you all for sacrificing and being here. We're looking forward to seeing you all and celebrating you all at the very top of this business, congratulations, I'll see you all at the next national conference."

General Session III: Big New Announcements Part I

Session III Speakers

Session III didn't end with the reveal of Legal Shield as our new name and logo, it was just getting started!! The audience cheered as new item after new item was revealed, all freshly branded with the new design!

Alan explained the research that went into our new logo and designs. The family with their back turned to the camera, is meant to denote protection: they aren't worried about what's behind them. Even the font of the new Legal Shield logo was carefully chosen. The serif font denotes seriousness.

Jesse Macpherson and Larry Smith took the stage to introduce several of the new items.

  • A New Membership leaflet brochure that includes the Identity Theft Shield as well as the Legal Plan. The exciting part is that it will only cost $.35 cents each!
  • A new Flipchart includes new features such as a simplified comp plan, a break-down of how to Fast Start qualify, even an audio presentation of the flipchart is available! The number to call for the audio is included in the brochure. Jesse announced that every new Associate will receive one in their Associate kit.
  • New Member kit: features a single membership card that includes the Legal Shield number.

Patrick Shaw and Don Thompon shared about the new Associate Kit: The Business in a Box, which is in production right now, and expected to be out in 30 days. They had new training news to share as well:

  • First Step Training is now an online introduction to the business for Associates to take within   their first 24-48 hours in the business. This training is a welcome into the business, helps them create lists, set goals put their "top 10" into play, Schedule a PBR, PCC and understand the Fast Start Process.
  • A new Basic Training has a singular purpose: Get Associates paid and get them promoted. It will last around 2 hours, 45 minutes and is free to all new Fast Start Associates. An online version will be availalbe for special circumstances. Jesse announced that this afternoon, a special Basic Training for the trainers will take place, to get them ready to start this very important training.
  •  New Associates now have 30 days from their basic training date, to Fast Start Qualify. They must take this training within their first 30 days. Basic training will also be required to get to Sr. Associate.
  • For those that didn't Fast Start Qualify...a Fast Start Reset is coming!

 Oh and there's more...

General Session III: The New Name and Logo are revealed!

Legal Shield Logo
General Session III was THE Place to be as Chief Commercial Officer and President, Alan Fearnley took to the stage for the moment we have ALL been waiting for. The crowd, 10,000 strong, roared as he began the presentation that would lead up to the reveal of the new company name and logo. "Today, I'm going to tell you everything," Alan said, "It's going to be content rich." He did not disappoint as he walked everyone through the rebranding timeline:

  • April – The disruptive model and the decision to rebrand
  • May – What is Pre-Paid Legal? Developed a branding statement
  • June- Naming alternatives
  • July- Market testing
  • August- Development (logo and creative direction approval)
  • September - Launch

Alan explained in the first research phase, defining what Pre-Paid Legal really is, the name Pre-Paid
Legal was presented to focus groups, and they discovered that for the majority, "pre-paid" represented something of lower quality. (Keep in mind these focus groups were unawares, they did not know about the company.) "If you haven't got a real phone, you have a pre-paid phone. If you haven't got a credit card, you've got a pre-paid credit card," Alan illustrated. with that, they began looking at other names. About 150 names were first under consideration, finally 7 names went back in be tested in the focus groups. Legal Shield won with great results: 79% thought it was a good/great name. 88% though it fits the service described and 71% thought it was a unique and different brand name. (Those results were from respondents who received the Legal Shield concept.)

Alan Session III The Marketing Research was done by Next Decision Analysts, the largest privately-owned marketing research firm in the U.S. Alan noted that they've worked for companies like Visa, AT&T, Sears and Yahoo. He said when he got the research data from them, his hands began to shake, "I'm going to share that data with you right now," he said. One thing he shared was that 72% of consumers would like to recommend our product and 61% said it was a unique and different business model. Alan explained that this shows a multi-billion dollar potential!! With strong research behind them, in August development of the logo and creative direction began and now here we are...from Pre-Paid Legal to Legal Shield.

The reveal of our new Company name and look was absolutely amazing and a moment never to be forgotten. 10,000 cheering Associates stood to their feet chanting "Legal Shield." It was an amazing moment at this historic summit. And it didn't end there!

Are You Ready?

The doors opened at 8:30 am and Associates have been streaming into the arena. If you need to stop at registration when you arrive, it's located in the Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Club room. Attendants are ready to assist!

Session II Was Amazing!

DSCN4187
General Session II at the American Airlines Center opened with Associates Alastair Edwards and Amilda Coffman talking about the Golden App award. Amilda shared the history of the award as well as tips on making group sales.
DSCN4130 Amilda said that one of her first goals was to write 10 memberships a month. It took a year before she was able to do that, but she was determined. Now Amilda’s nearing 10,000 apps.
Alastair Edwards talked about the value of using the flip chart. When he first started in the business, he said he read the flip chart until he could actually DSCN4142 visualize it as he presented. He also reminded everyone that a group is just five or more people, it doesn’t have to be huge.
Amilda’s closing words were, “I want to encourage everyone this evening to go out there, start building your business, and get a golden application."
Next, those who have done just that, took the stage: The Golden App recipients. Recognition went from 1,000 all the way to 11,000 apps.
DSCN4148 Tony Petrill, VP of Sales took the stage with inspiring words and great advice. He showed a scene from the movie “Drumline” and shared these words from the clip, “One beat, one sound.” He emphasized the importance of unity in the company, “We can do so much more together, than we can do apart,” he said. He discussed the importance of retention. “A 10% increase in the retention rates of the memberships sold by you and your organization…results in an increase in your residual income of approximately 35%. This is without additional sales." He advised to get your member’s to use their membership.
DSCN4166 Next, Brian Carruthers and Darnell Self spoke and introduced recognition. Brian took a moment to talk about Darnell and how when he started out, he wasn’t the best presenter, but he read, worked hard, and now he’s one of the best in the industry. “This business is, in my opinion, a personal development plan with a compensation plan attached to it. You earn while you learn,” Brian said.
Team Growth and Personal growth recognition took place next. So many Associates were recognized tonight!

DSCN4171 A dance troupe performed a fun number, and to the crowd’s delight, they were joined by none other than Dave Savula who closed the evening’s session with a stirring speech.
Dave’s a true coach in every sense of the word. He knows how to encourage, he knows when to be tough, and he’s always sincere. Dave discussed so many things, from his early days before PPL, all the way to today.
“We’re on a new mission, we’re on a new road. We’ve taken 40   years to build this space shuttle. We’ve got some bigger engines than we’ve ever had before, we’ve got better fuel than we’ve ever had before and we’ve got some pilots that want to fly this sucker!”Savula

Dave's closing words were strong and fired up the excited crowd. He told everyone to never back down and when they get knocked down, to get up swinging!!

What a great night. If you ever have the opportunity to hear such powerful, insightful, engaging speakers like the ones here tonight, go and take everyone who will come with you. There's nothing like being here in person, absorbing every word and feeling the excitement in the air.

Big announcements are coming in Session III Tomorrow! Stay Tuned!

BBT Reception
The Building Better Together Reception is also going on in Landmark C-D. This invitation only event is hosted by Rip Mason and Alan Fearnley.

Session One offers Great Lessons and Recognition

DSCN4001
General Session I also featured a fantastic selection of great speakers and recognition. John Hoffman and Michael Dorsey spoke on the importance of Team. Michael defined "team" as this: A set of two or more individuals who interact dynamically, interdependently and adaptively to acheive specified, shared and valued goals. He used an illustration of pencils to prove his point. He said that one pencil is easy to break, but put several together and they become hard to break.

Tony Petrill, Pre-Paid Legal's Vice President of Sales took the stage to share about his new duties. "The bad news is, I took a job. The good news is, I'm working for you!" He said. Tony's new job, is to increase sales, "I want you to succeed," he said.

DSCN4038 Next up, Rabu Gary and Mike Humes discussed setting goals. Rabu advised everyone to help their new Associates Fast Start qualify, then help them get their investment back. It's also important to ensure your Assoicates have a good PPL experience. Mike stressed the importance of having a vision, "A vision is a mental picture of a future state," he said. Other points they shared included: Teach new DSCN4043 Associates how to properly market a membership, promote trainings, and lead by example.

Sean Mikael and Katrina Ferguson spoke about quality recruiting. "Get them in", was the first key point. Sean encouraged everyone to keep 10 people in play. That's ten people looking at information, ten people you're in contact with regarding the Opportunity. Getting them paid, and having a relationship with them is also very important. And for those that aren't interested in the membership or opportunity...Katrina advised to at least walk away from a no, with referrals. Ask for the names of people that might benefit from our services.

DSCN4108 Tony Petrill returned to the stage to share these inspiring words, "Come from a position of strength: We have what they need." He advised when you sell a membership, ask the member for three reasons they may have to call the Attorney right now. If they don't have one, suggest three reasons. Write their reasons for using the membership on the copy of the application that they keep. Then on your copy, Tony advised to write referrals from the member. "Ask them who they know that you can help."

DSCN4100 Glen Davis and Jason Lavendar discussed intelligent selling. Glen encouraged everyone to, "Be passionate! We're changing lives!" At the same time, Jason pointed out that you should never oversell the product. Glen and Jason illustrated their points with humours skits to show what not to do. One skit they did illustrated this point, If someone's down on their luck, and interested, but says not right now...don't run that person off, by trying too hard. Be persistent, but not Insistent.

Overall it was a great, action-packed afternoon with soooooo much valuable information shared and great people recognized. Obi Ndu, Kathy Aaron and Brian Carruthers also shared insights and valuable information.

DSCN4028 The Ring Earner Rumble Recognition took place in Session One as well. The National Champs for top points, were: Team Freedom Fighters, led by Sean and Loren Mikael! The National Champion for highest level of growth, was team BAC, led by Thomas Owens.

Other recognition included Top Producers in PPL and Fast Start Recognition for the top 20 Associates who had the highest percentage of Fast Start Qualifiers in their open line. Recruiting, Member Sales and Retention recognition also took place. Congrats to everyone!

A Time to Come Together, A Time to Look Forward

General Session one at the Pre-Paid Legal Leadership Summit began with prayer by Associate Agar Thomas and the singing of the United States and Canadian National Anthems. Ronielda Johnson sang O Canada, and Brittney Pioquinto sang The Star Spangled Banner.

The excitement in the room overflowed, when a video played that ended with these words, "Your tomorrow is here. Are you ready?" The audience broke into cheers!

DSCN3981
CEO RIp Mason fired up the arena (literally!) with an exciting arrival on stage and an awesome message. With eloquence and sincerety, he shared how honored he was to be Pre-Paid Legal's CEO. Rip said, "It's truly an honor to be here with so many gifted people that give so much."

In his speech he  praised the Pre-Paid Legal product and opportunity. "You come to work every day, fulfilling the American dream," Rip told the audience. He also took a moment to commend the heroes of 9/11, as we near the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

DSCN3990 He then went on to discuss rebranding. "We're going to amp it up and take it to a whole new level!" he said. Rip also emphasized that rebranding is serious business. He said that over 30,000 people have been surveyed as part of the rebranding research. This was not an endeavor taken lightly, but the result of much research.

In his conclusion, he stirred the audience with powerful words, that will certainly be remembered throughout the coming weeks as we enter a season of new beginnings. Rip said that now, "is a time of reflection, a time for us to come together, a time for us to look to the future."

Inspiring words from CEO Rip Mason.

Russell and Carole Peden, took the time to honor some great PPL Couples: Harland and Shirley Stonecipher, Carol and the late WIlburn Smith, and the Peden's mentors Fran and the late Woody Alexander. The Pedens shared the lessons they learned through the Alexanders. Things like a solid work ethic, how to work as a Pedens edited couple (focus on strenths), the importance of saving money, and most importantly, committment. Russell talked about the committment to PPL that he saw in his mentors. Russell concluded with this advice, "Act the way you want to feel, and soon you'll feel the way you want to act."

Savulas Dave told the crowd, "I hope you make the decision to be with us." He also spoke with excitement about the changes taking place at Pre-Paid Legal. "We're getting ready to launch the most significant thing this company has ever launched in 40 years of history."

Aucoins edited The AuCoins were marvelous hosts that kept the crowd entertained and at times roaring with laughter. Frank's closing words were especially touching. He quoted two things from Dr. Martin Luther King. The first: "Laws declare our rights, they don't deliver them." Frank advised that it's our job to deliver the rights, "That's what we're about, that's what the Stoneciphers started this business for," Frank said. The other quote from Dr. King was, "Laws aren't made to change the heart, laws are made to restrain the heartless."

Frank closed by looking forward to the upcoming sessions. "Tomorrow and the following day, you will see the vision that MidOcean has brought us."

Advanced Small Business Training

Adv Sm Biz
Once again, it was standing room only as Associates packed out yet another great training session.

The Advanced Small Business Training session, is not a certification course, but offers advanced training to Associates who are already Small Business certified. Nick Serba was on hand at the training as well as others, including Charlie and Lisa Muhlenkamp: Advanced Small Business Trainers.

This action packed four hour training took place in Landmark B at the Hyatt. On the agenda: The fundamentals of prospecting, networking with Breakfast with Fran, recruiting from small business and so much more.

Charlie Mulhenkamp spoke on the importance of compentence. You have got to know the product and know it well. He advised everyone to practice and make sure they understand the membership. In fact, Charlie suggested that everyone write down ten people they know. Family, Friends, kids, whoever...ten people to practice your presentation to. Charlie also advised repeat attandence at the Small Biz trainings: "Go until you have the knowledge you need." He suggested you write down questions that come up along the way, then return to a training and get the answers you need to those questions.

So much great advice and strong techniques from leaders who have reaped the results of the techniques they teach. It's no wonder so many Associates were not only in attendance, but had notebooks, laptops, or ipads in hand, taking careful notes.

Walk-ins Are Welcome!

So many Associates are still coming in. If you didn't get to pre-register, don't let that hold you back. Come on down and head for the Walk-In section of PPL's registration area.
